We have branched away from first line as title approach and we frankly like the dedicated title option. It gives more control to the user. Curious what other users think about this.

Believe me, we tried this option many times and we always found the option to selectively leave out title for some posts useful. For example, you want to give title to key moments/posts/days in life and not for regular routine days. That way while scrolling through timeline you would see key entries in bold with a title and regular ones less prominently.

I agree it adds one additional step, but also provides a good option. I am curious what others think.

Ok, I get your point w.r.t. it’s effect in timeline. Didn’t notice it till you mentioned.

My experience has been that the lower the key strokes taking to accomplish certain task, the more I use that app. Because we can finish it quick and move on. For e.g. smart date entry in Todoist is a brilliant feature and it’s that feature which makes me use that app again and again. I can create one task with exact due date with as minimum key stroke as possible. That app isn’t related to Dyrii, but Im trying to highlight the use case.

Even in case of Dyrii, im trying to use New Post through widget which is the quick way as of now.

I also agree your intention. You can keep a tab on this and if any better way can be arrived in futur e.

BTW one suggestion - the current New Post option in Widget is good. From the app, when we click +, we get option to choose the post type through icons (mood, photo, etc). Why not merge both? ie in widget, have these icons and clicking on them will directly go that type's New Post. In this way, it will be the best way to add content more easily to Dyrii.

May be initially you can give 2x3 icon set (6 post types) so that it covers two lines in widget. Later in future updates, allow user to configure what post type to show in widget.

    What say?

That sounds like a good suggestion. But we are also looking into how we could simplify the general new post flow by eliminating the Post Type Picker view in the middle and placing those options within the same Editor. So we need to review this from that perspective as well.

I feel the way Day One handles first line is great. If the first line is less than certain number of characters (i guess its 90), its considered title, other wise normal post without title. Great, isn't it?

Can we have similar way? It makes creating post easier and reduces tapping every time to switch.

I would support whole heartedly a variable length designation for the first line.  No return prior to a user defined length = No title, let me type "Production mtg" return and boom I can get right into the meeting notes.

P.S. is there a way to add tags via # or @ symbol?

I'd be happy with the title-field being focused on when opening a new post. That way you don't need to switch to switch to title and then back to body as it currently works.

People who don't want to enter a title, just need 1 extra click
