I would like to see more color options as well as a more modern, streamlined, colorful interface.

We deliberately kept the color options limited in the app so that we can support dark mode. The current theme color (#db5a6b) was also picked with dark mode under consideration. This color looks good in both dark and white backgrounds. There are very few colors that meet this criteria. Blue (#0080FF) is a good one too, but too common.

If there is a blue that also meets this criteria then maybe you can give us a theme option between blue and this reddish pink color.

Instead of giving a new color option, what if we remove the reddish color background from lock and startup screens and retain the color for headings and clickable labels? I think the use of that color as full backgrounds is what is troubling, correct?

We want to reserve the option to use other colors such as blue for other future features such as for tags, multiple journals etc.

I think this is probably fine. You can either make it more colorful or less colorful. Less is fine if you are adding color to labels, tags, headings, and multiple journals.

Choosing the color is user preference. It’s simple. Setting the color to say Blue will change the color to blue where ever the current brown appears like title, tags, etc

When multiple journal comes, most will set one color per journal.

So my personal option is just providing simple option of choosing theme color and it reflects in title, tags, etc. Day One does it neat. No need for any discussion on this topic as I feel it’s basic feature. My teo cents.
