Dan - Sorry about the delay in responding back. As you can tell, we have been busy with other initiatives that I cannot talk about. But please be assured, we are not abandoning the app. We personally use it every day in our lives. We routinely release updates to the app to address bugs/issues and we will continue to do that. We are currently working on adding support for iOS 13, where support for Apple's Dark Mode will be included. We have paused major new feature development in the app until we figure out a more sustainable pricing model. I hope that clarifies your doubts. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions or concerns.

    Thanks,
    Alex

I am glad to hear that there will be updates to the Dyrii even though these are not major ones.

I also realize that Dyrii is an indie app and not your main source of income.

What really impressed me about Dyrii is the iCloud integration and how it’s possible to access my journal via a web browser.

As for the pricing model, I would consider a subscription as long as my journal would reside on Apple’s iCloud ecosystem.  Subscriptions are not popular with everyone but it does provide steady funding for app development.

I have abandoned 1Password for Secrets and DayOne for Dyrii not because of their subscription model but because I didn’t want to be locked in and have to manage a third party cloud storage.  I have been reducing my digital footprint and Apple has done a great job at providing me with what I need. (Looking forward to using the Reminders app update when Catalina and iOS 13 are released)

Whatever pricing model you chose, the difficult choice will be what would be a good cost to maintain your app but at the same time attract more users.

Thank you for replying and for reassuring me about future development.

Thanks for your support! iCloud support is our main value proposition and we plan to continue supporting that option. Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

Going by what I have read, the current state of the Dyrii development is as follows:

    • No major new feature development for Dyrii until a more sustainable pricing model is chosen.
    • Will continue to provide release updates to Dyrii to address bugs/issues.
    • Currently working on adding support for iOS 13, where support for Apple's Dark Mode will be included.
    • Will continue to support iCloud for where Dyrii data is saved and synchronized.
    • All of you at Dyrii personally use it every day in your lives.
    • No ETA (excuse the pun but I have discovered over time that Apple related app diary dates are very generic).

When looking into maintenance releases and what users have been reporting lately, the following issues still remain:

    • iCloud synching between macOS and iOS versions.
    • Data stability and integrity issues
    • With Dark Mode coming to the iOS version, the quote display issue that I reported (by email on Tue, Jan 22, 2019 at 07:58 PM) on the macOS version still hasn't been fixed.

The first two are big concerns because when writing, distractions like these break the writer's thought process and undermine the confidence in the app itself.

That being said, it's only been a few weeks since the releases of macOS Catalina and iOS 13 so you are probably still working on the Dyrii maintenance releases for those platforms which will hopefully address all of the above.

Could I suggest that instead leaving these support threads dormant for months, you could check these on a monthly basis and even post a short activity news blurb (i.e. October News).  I'm not asking for ETAs but generally what is going on with the app (good or bad).

I want to continue using Dyrii but it is hard to motivate myself to do so given the current state of the app.  This is a lot to digest but I value this app and what it could possibly become in the future.

    Take care.
